CAIR-AZ: Arizona Muslims Offer Condolences to Family of Kayla Mueller, Repeat Condemnation of ISIS Brutality

(PHOENIX, AZ, 2/10/15) — The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Arizona (CAIR-AZ) today joined the Arizona Muslim community  in offering condolences to the family of aid worker Kayla Mueller, who was killed while being held hostage by the ISIS terrorist group.

In a statement, CAIR-AZ said:

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family of Kayla Mueller. Ms. Mueller embodied the values of love and mercy that moved her to leave the comfort of her Prescott home to give aid to displaced Syrian refugees.

“The death of Ms. Mueller is very telling of ISIS’ anti-Islamic ideology, in that they would target those who are aiding the helpless and bringing light to the plight of those who are suffering. Our collective thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.”

Other signatories to CAIR-AZ’s statement include the Islamic Center of Tempe (ICC), The Islamic Center of North East Valley (ICNEV), Islamic Center of North Phoenix (ICNP) the Islamic Center of Laveen (ICL) the Islamic Center of Tucson (ICT), the Islamic Center of East Valley (ICEV), Masjid Noor (Mesa), Masjid EsSalaam (Chandler), Muslim American Society of Arizona (MAS-AZ), the Arizona Muslim Police Advisory Board, and the Muslim Students’ Association of ASU (MSA-ASU).

CAIR recently joined a number of national and local Muslim scholars and leaders in Washington, D.C., to release a first-of-its-kind open letter signed by more than 120 international scholars of Islam and Muslim leaders refuting the ideology of the terrorist group ISIS and urging its supporters to repent and “return to the religion of mercy.”

Along with joining that international initiative, CAIR and its many chapters nationwide have repeatedly condemned and rallied against the “un-Islamic and morally repugnant” violence and religious extremism of ISIS.
